Janice Jensen brings fifteen years of creating, developing, writing and producing to her projects. Genres include reality, documentary, high-end reenactment, sports and talk. One of her last major projects, Chasing Lance, was nominated for two Emmys, including “Best Sports Special.” The eight-hour mini-series for the Discovery Channel and HD Theater showcases the arduous training season of Lance Armstrong and Team Discovery during Lance’s final record-breaking Tour de France year. Janice was the writer, supervising and exec-producer for the series. Also highly praised for its originality and entertainment value was the Animal Planet movie-documentary hybrid, Wildlife Wars.. Janice exec-produced the two-hour special that reenacts the true cases of a retired game warden and federal agent. As co-executive producer and writer of Animal Planet’s one-hour crime reenactment series, Busted, Janice managed the show’s entire editorial process: case selection, first drafts, legal consultation, fact-checking, and final reenactment scripts. Wildlife Wars and Busted allowed her career to come full circle. Janice started out in television as a writer and producer of investigative stories and crime segments for Denver’s NBC news affiliate. She received five regional Emmy nominations and two Emmy’s for in-depth news reporting, and two Edward R. Murrow honors. Previously, Janice worked as a reporter and news anchor for three Colorado radio stations: KIUP (Durango), KDEN (24-hour news/Denver), KYBG (sports & news/Denver.) She left news in 1995, and applied her writing and producing expertise to behind-the-scene segments and film profiles for the movie channels, Encore and Starz. Janice was hired in 1997 as a segment producer/writer for a brand new reality docu-drama series on Animal Planet, Emergency Vets. The series became one of the network’s first breakout hits. Janice was then hired to manage an existing Animal Plant strand, Breed All About It. As Series Producer, she supervised all editorial input for this popular documentary series on dog breeds. Janice was promoted to Co-Executive Producer of Breed All About It during the series’ fifth and sixth seasons. It was at this time that she began developing the premise for Busted, which started in production in early 2001. A year later, Janice developed a talk show/documentary health series for the Discovery Channel and Discovery Health. She wrote the reality segments and managed the post-production for this series based in New York and hosted by world-renowned heart surgeon Mehmet Oz. She is also the series narrator. Second Opinion with Dr. Oz premiered in October 2003. Other projects include World’s Best Beaches 2005, America’s Best Beaches 2005, Home for the Holidays and Best Beach Contests for the Travel Channel. In July, Janice received the first-ever Silverdocs ACE grant for her natural history documentary proposal, Cougars on the Edge. The story focuses on mountain lions trapped inside Los Angeles due to suburban sprawl. The Humane Society of the United States “Animal Content in Entertainment” division sponsored the grant. The panel of judges included development executives from Discovery Channel, National Geographic, PBS and Animal Planet. The four-minute trailer is available at www.themilkhaus.com/FTP/COUGAR/.
